Fun Soccer Exercises Kids Can Do at Home with a Ball
Even just a few minutes of daily practice at home can make a big difference in a child’s soccer skills. Short, focused sessions help reinforce techniques learned during training, improve ball control, and develop muscle memory. By practicing consistently, children gain confidence in handling the ball, make quicker decisions on the field, and are better prepared to perform during matches. Even in winter, these small daily efforts add up, helping kids improve faster and enjoy the game more.
At MVB F.C., we encourage young players to keep developing their skills, confidence, and coordination, even when the weather keeps them indoors. These exercises are perfect for kids' soccer training at home and complement our youth soccer programs.
1. Figure 8 Ball Control Drill
In this video, we practice the Figure 8 dribbling exercise, a simple but powerful drill that helps young players improve close control, coordination, and confidence with the ball.
To set it up, place 2 cones (or shoes or bottles) on the ground and dribble the ball around them in a figure 8 shape.
How to practice
• Start slow and focus on keeping the ball close
• Use the inside and outside of your left foot
• Then switch to the inside and outside of your right foot
• Once comfortable, try using both feet together
• Gradually increase your speed while staying in control
Why this drill is important
The Figure 8 helps players
• Develop soft touches
• Improve coordination and balance
• Learn to change direction smoothly
• Feel more confident with the ball
This is a perfect at home or warm up drill that builds the foundation for dribbling in real game situations.

2. Essential Ball Mastery Drills for Young Soccer Players
In this video, we share 3 essential ball mastery drills that young players can practice at home, even indoors. These exercises are designed to improve ball control, coordination, confidence, and quick footwork.
These drills do not require a wall. They are focused on close control and foot technique, exactly as shown in the video.

3. Basic Ball Mastery Workout at Home
This video shows a basic ball mastery workout that players can do at home, even in small spaces. It is designed to keep kids active, improve footwork, and build confidence with the ball when they cannot train outdoors.
These drills focus on fast feet, close control, and rhythm, which are essential for every young soccer player.
Drills in the video
• Inside Touches
Tap the ball side to side using the inside of both feet. This builds control, rhythm, and comfort on the ball.
• Toe Taps
Tap the top of the ball with each foot. This improves balance, endurance, and coordination.
• Inside–Outside (Left & Right Foot)
Move the ball using the inside and outside of each foot. This helps with smooth dribbling and direction changes.
• V-Cuts
Pull the ball back with the sole of the foot and push it forward in a V shape. This teaches quick turns and ball protection.
Why this is important
This type of ball mastery training helps players
• Feel more confident on the ball
• Improve coordination and foot speed
• Stay active when they cannot go outside
• Build habits of daily practice
These simple drills create the foundation for future soccer performance.

4. Target Practice
Set up small goals using cones, boxes, or household items. Kids can practice shooting into these targets, improving accuracy and power. Adding a timed challenge or scoring system makes it fun and competitive. For further inspiration on target drills, review the soccer video guides above and adapt them to your space.
5. Agility and Movement Drills
Use the ball to create movement challenges. Kids can dribble around obstacles, perform quick stops and turns, or weave between cones. These exercises improve footwork, balance, spatial awareness, and reaction speed. Combining movement with ball control bridges home practice with game situations.
6. Creative Challenges
Encourage kids to invent their own exercises or tricks. For example, moving the ball around obstacles, performing short sprints while dribbling, or creating obstacle courses. Creativity keeps them engaged while developing problem‑solving skills and a love for practice.
Benefits of Practicing at Home
Practicing soccer at home helps children:
Maintain fitness and coordination even in winter
Improve ball control, technique, and decision‑making
Develop focus, discipline, and consistency
Build confidence and independence
With just a few minutes of practice each day and by using our home drill videos, kids can keep improving their skills while having fun with the game. At MVB F.C., our youth soccer programs and kids soccer training are designed to make practice enjoyable and help every child grow both as a player and as a person.
